Readers and Writers
Motivates children towards successful reading & writing from Kindergarten to P6 Takes young children confidently through the initial stages of literacy in the classroom & home. Objectives K1 & K2: Word attack skills for reading & writing: Sight and high frequency words, language structure & awareness, phonics, vocabulary building, picture cueing, hand-writing and beginning spelling. P1 & P2: Comprehension of fiction & non-fiction, sentence structure, punctuation, creative writing & composition. P3 & P4: Elements of a story, reading & writing for stories, composition & reports. P5 & P6: Story mapping; exploring different genres of writing, proof-reading, peer & self-editing and publishing. Children work in groups of 12 to one teacher. K1 & K2 classes supported by an additional Assistant Teacher Weekly classes (except on public holidays), 1.5 hours/session. Grouped according to age & school level.

This 90mins session includes writing a few sentences on the activities for that lesson with helping words given by the teacher on the board, tracing of alphabets and words and also phonics. The class also incorporates some element of speech and drama through use of show and tell which encourages the kids to build up confidence in their speech and ability to speak in front of the class. I love the way the teachers speak and present themselves. It is very clear and expressive. Have continued another term as my son do enjoy his lessons.
