Kinder Violin

Children who have completed Baby Beats or Twinkle may join with teacher's recommendation. A progressive course over 4 terms (10 weeks per term). The Kinderviolin program follows Wolfgang Violin Studio's signature beginners' program "Prelude" but is tailored for younger children. A strong emphasis is placed on building a solid technical set up on the violin that will allow the child to enjoy the violin, playing fun songs as well as exercises. Classes are limited to 2-3 children per group and unaccompanied. (Child expected to be ready for Grade 1 by the end of Kinderviolin )

Personally I would prefer my son to learn the violin as I feel that it is much more challenging than piano and the chances of performing in an orchestra will be much higher than if he learnt piano. We started him off with the baby beats class which is parent accompanied and then now his in the kinder violin class where they emphasize more on the technical skills of playing the violin rather than music and movement / appreciation classes in the baby beats. Class size is also smaller and is not parent accompanied. Great emphasis is placed on the way he holds the violin and the bow, the way he stand as well as his fingering. But I would say that piano sound much nicer than violin actually and violin can go out of tune so much more easily and sounds screechy too in the beginning. As it is non-parent accompanied, they have a progress book that states what they have covered for that lesson, what to practice for at home and areas that are weaker on. There will also be a year end concert which is good to show case what they have mastered so far.
